Scalp Oiling
What is scalp oiling, and how does it benefit hair health?
Scalp oiling involves applying natural oils to the scalp to moisturize, nourish, and improve the overall health of the hair and scalp. It helps to hydrate the scalp, strengthen the hair follicles, and promote hair growth.
How often should I scalp oil, and can I do it daily?
The frequency of scalp oiling depends on your hair type and scalp condition. Keep in mind that everyone's scalp is different. What works well for one person may not necessarily work for another due to differences in skin type, concerns, and sensitivities. By experimenting with various skincare routines, we can identify what works best for our individual needs, leading to healthier and more radiant skin.
Generally, for basic maintenance, it is advisable to oil your scalp two to three times a week. Scalp oiling helps moisturize the scalp, reduce dryness, and improve overall hair health by enhancing blood circulation to the hair follicles. For those needing to invigorate hair follicles and achieve deeper care, more frequent application, such as three to five times a week, can deliver superior results. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing hair thinning or loss, as regular oiling can help stimulate growth and strengthen hair strands.
Is leaving scalp oil overnight beneficial for better results?
For an intensive treatment and optimal results, leaving the scalp oil overnight can be beneficial, especially when your hair and scalp require extra nourishment or hydration. Overnight application allows the oil to deeply penetrate the scalp and hair follicles, providing thorough moisturization and promoting overall hair health. However, it's essential to assess your individual hair type and scalp condition before opting for an overnight treatment.
Always listen to your hair's needs and adjust your treatment duration accordingly for the best outcomes.
Can scalp oiling help with specific scalp conditions like dandruff or dryness?
Yes, scalp oiling can help alleviate scalp conditions like dandruff and dryness by moisturizing the scalp, reducing inflammation, and promoting a healthy scalp environment. However, results may vary, and use it consistently for best results.
Should I apply oil to wet or dry hair, and how long should I leave it on before washing?
It's generally recommended to apply oil to dry scalp, as wet scalp can dilute the oil and make it less effective.
Why does hair fall occur during scalp massage in the initial stages of use?
It's common to experience some hair fall while massaging the scalp during an oil treatment. This phenomenon is a natural process and typically not cause for concern.
During scalp massage, blood circulation is stimulated, nourishing the hair follicles and promoting hair growth. Consequently, older or weaker hairs nearing the end of their growth cycle may naturally shed to make room for new, healthier strands to emerge.
Furthermore, scalp massage helps to dislodge and eliminate dead skin cells, excess oil, and product buildup from the scalp, all of which can contribute to hair fall.
Therefore, if you observe some hair fall during your scalp massage, it indicates that the massage is effectively enhancing blood flow and fostering a healthy scalp environment. As long as the hair fall remains minimal and within normal limits, there is no cause for concern. Rest assured that your hair will replenish itself, emerging stronger and healthier than before.
Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with scalp oiling?
While scalp oiling is generally safe, some people may experience allergic reactions or sensitivity to certain oils. It's essential to patch test any new oil before applying it to the scalp and discontinue use if you experience any adverse reactions.
How can I incorporate scalp oiling into my existing hair care routine for optimal results?
You can incorporate scalp oiling into your existing hair care routine by applying oil to the scalp and massaging it in before shampooing and conditioning your hair. You can also use scalp oiling as a pre-shampoo treatment or leave-in treatment for added hydration and nourishment. Adjust the frequency and method of scalp oiling based on your hair type and scalp condition for optimal results.

When will I start seeing results?
While individual outcomes may differ, regular usage is expected to enhance the health of your scalp and hair. It's important to note that factors such as health, stress, diet, and other lifestyle variables can influence the outcome.
Each hair has different phases: growth (Anagen), transition (Catagen), and resting (Telogen). After starting scalp care, you usually enter the resting phase first, where unhealthy hair sheds to make room for new growth. New hair begins growing from the follicles again, which takes about three to four months.
However, after several weeks of consistent care, the scalp gradually restores a healthier environment and achieves a balance in sebum production. This process contributes to overall hair health and may lead to improvements in density and thickness. Typically, customers observe heightened thickness within three months of consistent use, with optimal results becoming evident after six months.
It's essential to maintain patience and consistency while incorporating our products into your hair care routine, as individual responses may vary due to unique factors such as genetics and lifestyle. By adhering to a regular regimen and considering various lifestyle factors, you can optimize the benefits and promote the healthiest outcome for your hair.
How do I perform a patch test?
Before introducing new products, we advise conducting a patch test. Apply a small amount to your wrist or behind your ear, cover it, and observe for 48 hours. Discontinue use if any irritation occurs.

Considering our products contain essential oils, it's best to consult your doctor before using them during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Will your products help to cure my disease?
DAY ONE ORGANIC products are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any illnesses.
Can I use your products if I have extensions?

Hair Growth Cycle and Shedding During Scalp Treatment
What are the main phases of the hair growth cycle?
The hair growth cycle consists of three main phases:
- Active hair production
- Follicles shrink, hair stops growing
- Hair detaches and prepares to shed
When scalp care begins—such as using botanical scalp oils containing active ingredients like rosemary, peppermint, or ginger—improved microcirculation and nutrient delivery may stimulate hair follicles to readjust their cycle.
At this stage, some follicles may temporarily enter the telogen phase, causing older or structurally weaker hairs to shed. This is not a sign of damage, but a way for the follicle to make room for stronger, healthier hair to grow. The follicle then reenters the anagen phase, initiating new hair growth from the root.
The entire process—from initial shedding to visible regrowth—typically takes around 3 to 4 months. This does not mean hair will continuously fall out for three months, but rather that:
“Shedding → Renewal → Growth” is a natural cycle that unfolds over a period of 3–4 months.
With consistent nourishment and gentle stimulation, the new hair that grows in is often thicker, stronger, and healthier in texture and density.
What is short-term shedding, and why does it happen?
Some users may notice a temporary increase in hair shedding when beginning scalp care. This happens because, as follicles transition from the resting (telogen) phase into the growth (anagen) phase, they naturally release older hairs that were already nearing the end of their life cycle.
This is called physiological shedding, and it’s a sign that the follicles are becoming active again.
It usually lasts a few days to a few weeks, and does not persist throughout the entire cycle.
Daily Hair Shedding & Routine Changes:
— A Clear Guide to What’s Normal
1. Normal Shedding Amount
- 50–100 hairs per day
- telogen phase (natural rest/shedding stage)
- Falling within this range is a sign of normal hair cycle activity
2. Perception vs. Reality
Habit: Wash every 2–3 days
➜ What happens: Hair sheds slowly and accumulates.
It becomes more visible during wash.
Habit: Wash daily
➜ What happens: Same amount of hair falls out, just more evenly spread out.
Habit: Rarely brush hair
➜ What happens: Loose hairs stay attached to scalp until brushed out later.
Habit: Start brushing often
➜ What happens: Old hairs are released all at once — looks like sudden shedding.
3. Key Insight
Changes in washing or brushing habits can make hair fall seem worse —
But the actual amount stays within the healthy range.
When to pause and reassess:
If you experience any of the following, it may indicate a sensitivity or adverse reaction.
In these cases, stop using the product and monitor your scalp, and consult a dermatologist if needed:
- redness, itching, burning, or stinging sensations
- Unusual or excessive hair loss that does not subside
